In St. Bartholomew's Anglican Catholic Church we believe in " Traditional Worship, Traditional Beliefs, Traditional Values "
About Us ... |
| We are a Continuing Anglican Parish within the Anglican Catholic Church , under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of the South; we blend the beauty of the original Episcopal Church as founded in 1789, with the Sacramental and Liturgical Traditions of our Catholic heritage, which we retain through Historical Apostolic Succession, with the faith of the Ancient Fathers, Councils and Creeds as preserved within The Anglican Catholic Church, with Classical Anglicanism in its Anglo-Catholic form. Our worship is for the formal recognition of God and for His Honor and Glory. |
We Believe: The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God. The Creeds (as the standard of Faith) mean exactly what they say. Christian Morality of the New Testament is the sole guide for the Church. The Sacraments convey grace; and through them Christ is known, and is present. The Apostolic Ministry of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons was instituted by Christ and it is male in character. The worship of the Church has as its basis the Book of Common Prayer (1928) We DO NOT compromise on matters of Faith and Order, Doctrine, Discipline or Morality. The world should conform to God & His Church; not the other way around. Saint Bartholomew's parishaffirm the common unity with the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church: | One, because God is One, and His Church is One, | | Holy, because God is holy, and His love sanctifies us, | | Catholic, because we share fully in the faith of our fathers and of the Universal Church, | | Apostolic, because we maintain continuity with the teachings of Jesus, and with the historic continuing episcopacy. Here We Stand! .... Come and visit us -- |

A Short History of Our Parish....
"Our mission is to follow Christ, to worship God every Sunday in his church, and to work and pray and give for the spread of his Kingdom.” (Book of Common Prayer p. 291) Measures its beginnings from November 18, 1991. On that day the Rev. W. Thomas Campbell, a retired Episcopal Priest, headed a delegation of six to St. Benedict's Church in Chapel Hill to begin the process of forming a new parish within the Anglican Catholic Church During the eight years of Fr. Campbell's service as Rector, new parishioners were received primarily from the Episcopal and Roman Churches. An extended illness in 1999 prevented Fr. Campbell from being able to perform his priestly duties, and his retirement as Rector was effective in February 2000. The Vestry, by unanimous vote, awarded the honorary status of Rector Emeritus to Fr. Campbell in recognition of his devoted service to God and steady leadership of the parish in its formative years. Over the July 1999 to March 2000 period the Morning Prayer service was conducted each Sunday by Licensed Lay Readers. Beginning in September 1999 Fr. Frank Martin of Augusta GA served the parish as supply Priest to celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month as well as Christmas Eve. In March 2000 Rev. Nick Chandler Athanaelos was appointed as Curate. "Fr. Nick" was previously assigned as Sacristan / Secretary at St. Stephen's Anglican Catholic Pro-Cathedral in Athens, Georgia and as Diocesan Director of Youth Programs. Following Fr. Nick's appointment an increase in parish membership filled the temporary facility and a building program was established. Fr. Nick was elevated to the Holy Order of Priest on August 26, 2000. The Rev. Fr. Athanaelos was called as Rector at St. Bartholomew's on November 11, 2000. The first phase of the construction program was completed in time for Easter Services 2002. Fr. Athanaelos was called as rector of St. Andrew & St. Margaret of Scotland - ACC (Alexandria, Virginia) in August, 2002. On August 3, 2002 The Rev. Fr. Donald F. Lerow, Chaplain, Captain USN was ordained to the Holy Order of Priest at St. Bartholomew's. "Fr. Don", senior chaplain of the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C., offered to serve the parish as voluntary supply Priest during the rector search period. Beginning November 17, 2002 Fr. Frank Martin (St. Luke's, Augusta, GA) and Fr. Scott McCleary (St. Benedict's, Chapel Hill, NC) served the parish as supply priests while Chaplain Lerow was on military deployment in Africa. Starting On May 4, 2003 the Rev. Canon Sanford R. Sears and Fr. Scott McCleary alternated by week the celebration of Holy Communion. On September of 2003. Canon Sanford R. Sears assumed his position as Priest-in-Charge in our parish. At St. Stephens Pro-Cathedral (Athens, GA) the Rev. Fr. Brian K. Waite, Chaplain, Lieutenant USN was ordained to the Holy Order of Priest on January 6, 2004. "Fr. Brian", who is stationed at Camp Lejeune, has offered to assist Canon Sears as a voluntary supply priest. On January 18th Fr. Lerow celebrated Mass with us prior to his deployment to California and Iraq with the 3rd Marine Air Wing. On october 0f 2004 Fr. Brian was tranferrd to Virginia Beach and currently is assigned to New River MAS as Group Chaplain, of the Osprey Group. Father Waite is now Chaplain, Lieutenant Commander USN. On December 31st, 2004 on the Feast of Saint Sylvester, Bishop and Confessor, Canon Sears was instituted as the third Rector of Saint Bartholomew's. Canon Sears also serves as a hospice chaplain and grief counselor. On the Feast of the Martydom of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle 2007, the Anglican Catholic Church of Saint Bartholomew's was consecrated by the Most Reverend Mark D.
